Returning Home for Thanksgiving

I apologize for the lack of pictures in this post and yesterday. Unfortunately, there seems to be a serious internet problem at my mom’s house, so I’m limited in what I can and cannot do at the moment. Sunday should (hopefully) have some sort of image. -N

So, as I mentioned yesterday, this is the first time in five years that I’ve been home for my personal favorite holiday, Thanksgiving. Of course, it’s my favorite for all of the important reasons, namely that it combines family, food, football, and America into one all-inclusive wonderful day.

This year, it was even more wonderful thanks to the fact that I was home after such a long drought of being away. Thanksgiving in Minneapolis, Jerusalem, Des Moines, and Denver just isn’t the same as Thanksgiving in Houston. [Actually, thanksgiving in Jerusalem was a low I hope to never again experience. There’s no accounting for turkey outside of the US.]

This year, we ate at my Aunt Suzy and Uncle Dennis’s place. Uncle Dennis cooks practically the whole feast, and what a feast it is! The turkey was unbelievably tender, the potatoes creamy, the yams sweet, the corn sweeter, the broccoli delicious, and the squash casserole cheesy and scrumptious. Dessert is also a treat, with pies and chocolate cake. Mmm.

In addition to a delicious feast of epic proportions (I had three plates), we also played some games, which is always fun. As usual, the conversation was lively and interesting. Overall, there is no question that I won’t miss another T-day at home for a long time.

It’s always good to be home for Thanksgiving and often times we can’t get the same experience being away from home. I ate so much food until I couldn’t eat any more until the next day. Spending time with family is the most important thing about the holidays.
